University for Society

By aligning social well-being and inclusion with both SDG and ESG frameworks, UMS ensures that academic excellence translates into social impact—building resilient communities, nurturing ethical leaders, and contributing to Malaysia’s sustainable development agenda.

Programme MENITI Kasih

Programme MENITI Kasih at UMS is a targeted access/scholarship initiative aimed at socio-economically disadvantaged students, especially from the B40 (Bottom 40%) income group) who may not have gained university admission otherwise. It functions as part of UMS’s social-inclusion and community-engagement efforts—helping transform ideas of aspiration into reality by offering entry to higher education and associated support.

Professor@School

Professor@School UMS is a community outreach and educational engagement program by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) where university professors and experts visit schools to inspire students, promote STEM education, and bridge academic knowledge with real-world learning.

UMS Mobile Clinics – Bringing Healthcare to the Community

Across Sabah’s winding roads and coastal villages, the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Mobile Clinic Bus and Van stand as symbols of hope — bringing healthcare, compassion, and connection to communities often far from hospitals and clinics. Operated by the Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah (HUMS) under the KPT Prihatin Komuniti Sejahtera Initiative, this mobile health outreach transforms access to care into a journey of sustainability and human dignity.

PuPUK UMS – Caring for Communities, Sustaining Wellness

Launched with the aim of embedding university expertise into community wellness, the PUPUK Programme places medical students from UMS’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences with “adopted families” in rural villages, beginning in areas like Kampung Lajong, Kudat. Participating students visit each family multiple times per year, offer free health-check support, act as a liaison for community health issues via mobile/online contact, and gain first-hand cultural exposure to Sabah’s diverse rural lifestyles.

UMS Community Knowledge Transfer Programme

The Pusat Kelestarian Libatsama Masyarakat (PKLM) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) stands as a bridge between the university and the people — transforming expertise into empowerment, and research into real impact.Villagers learn new ways to improve livelihoods while preserving their natural heritage, and university teams gain deeper understanding of local realities, ensuring solutions are both scientifically sound and socially grounded.
