UMS Sustainability, SDG & ESG Strategic Committee (JKSSE-UMS)
The UMS Sustainability, SDG & ESG Strategic Committee (JKSSE-UMS) serves as the central coordinating body driving Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s sustainability agenda. It oversees the planning, implementation, and monitoring of initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across the university’s operations, research, and community engagement.
Functions and Roles of the Committee
- To plan and implement the Campus Sustainability Strategic Plan in line with the SDGs and ESG principles.
- To monitor and evaluate the implementation of campus sustainability initiatives.
- To prepare annual reports related to the status and achievements of SDG and ESG implementation at UMS.
- To encourage innovation and research in the field of sustainability.
- To organize training programs and workshops related to SDG and ESG.
- To plan and implement initiatives related to SDG, ESG, and sustainability.
- To monitor the achievement of SDG and ESG programs.
- To raise awareness among campus communities on the importance of SDG and ESG, provide data inputs for relevant certifications, and formulate recommendations and compliance policies.
- To enhance compliance with ESG standards in university operations.
