UMS Sustainability Guidelines & SOP

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is committed to embedding sustainability into every aspect of its operations, teaching, research, and community engagement. To ensure consistency, accountability, and long-term impact, UMS has established a comprehensive set of Sustainability Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that guide decision-making, daily practices, and strategic initiatives across all faculties, centres, and administrative units. These guidelines function as a framework for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strengthening Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, and maintaining our identity as an EcoCampus.

UMS’s Sustainability Guidelines and SOP serve as reference points for responsible resource management, ethical practices, safety compliance, and environmental protection. They ensure that all university activities—from events and research to procurement and campus operations—adhere to principles of sustainability, transparency, and good governance. These guidelines also support UMS’s broader mission to reduce carbon emissions, enhance campus biodiversity, promote social wellbeing, and prepare the next generation of sustainability leaders.

UMS Sustainability and Climate Action Policy
