PUPUK UMS: Empowering Rural Health, Enriching Lives
More than 1,600 medical students and 32 villages across the Kudat district have benefited from the PUPUK Programme since its inception. This long-term initiative has become a living model of community-based sustainability, where medical education, preventive health, and social empathy converge to improve the quality of life in rural Sabah. By uniting the strength of knowledge with the spirit of service, UMS continues to cultivate health equity, resilience, and hope among communities often beyond the reach of conventional healthcare.
Since 2006Bridging the Distance, Healing the Divide
For many rural families in Kudat (Sabah), hospitals are hours away — separated by rivers, forests, and unpaved roads. Through PUPUK, UMS brings healthcare to their very doorsteps, ensuring that distance is no longer a barrier to dignity and well-being.
Healthcare Without BordersHealing with Heart and Understanding
Beyond medicine, PUPUK teaches empathy. Students learn to listen, respect, and serve — understanding the unique cultural rhythms of every community they visit. In doing so, they deliver healthcare that heals both body and spirit.
