Kota Kinabalu, 22 September 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) proudly celebrates a milestone of scientific excellence and sustainability leadership, with 15 of its distinguished scientists listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025, a global ranking curated by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier. Among these, 14 scientists were recognised for Single Year Citation Impact (2024 achievements), while 6 scientists were listed under the Career-Long Citation Impact category. Several exceptional researchers appeared in both categories, bringing the total number of unique UMS scientists recognised to 15.

UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor, emphasised that this recognition demonstrates UMS’s growing influence as a hub for sustainability-driven research and innovation:

  1. “The inclusion of UMS scientists among the world’s most influential researchers underscores our commitment to science that benefits people, nature, and the planet. It proves that the intellectual capital of Borneo contributes significantly to global sustainability and innovation.”
This international recognition strengthens UMS’s position as a university of global relevance — advancing science that is not only impactful in citations but transformative for society, policy, and the planet.
